Naramata

I was out cycling 28.21 km in 1h:35m:30s You can view my workout here:
Daily Mile

Strava
Endomondo
At present i'm still trying to workout which Ride Tracker i prefer. Initially i started with Endomondo and found it hard to manually insert my rides. I then found Dailymile which was so much better for manually inserting my ride details but now that i have a Garmin Edge 500, all that is mute and i kind of like the Strava details and information i can get which might now be more beneficial to my riding.

The way out was windy on East Side rd, the ride home was fairly fast. The evenings are getting shorter and the lights are coming out. Hopefully get a few more rides in before it gets way too cold. Hit some hills pretty hard just for some anaerobic work for Saturdays Cyclocross race.

Took the 23c tyres off and put on the 32c tyres onto the road bike and went and hit the dirt. The idea was to head up to Three Blind Mice, a known Mountain Biking area in the Okanagan Valley that has some great Single Track but it isn't a place for a Cyclo-cross Bike. I ended up climbing some of the hill and found myself onto some singletrack which is a little scary on skinny tyres. This wasn't what i had in mind for Cyclo-cross training so decided not to waste the sunny day and took off up the KVR trail. This is the Kettle Valley Rail Trail that use to be a railway line that went through the Valley. It has an average of 2.2% grade which goes for a fair few kilometers (almost 30 kms) and as a climbing route is great for training.
In all, the ride was well over 4 hours but i only had 3 and a half hours of riding time due to a lot of stopping to admire the view which for the most part was a good one looking over Lake Okanagan. I think if i could get a couple more chances of doing this before summer is over, my fitness and climbing will be well on the way to improvement.

Group Ride

August 31st, 2011

This was Bridgets First Group ride with The PACA group and she did awesome. The group consisting of four of us went out to OK Falls and we took McLean Creek Rd which for a beginner is quite a decent hill to be getting hill legs for cycling.

This route out to Camp Boyle has a section of Hill for maybe a km or two that has a 9% grade which really tests the legs. No real wind to contend with just hills and recovery. Fitness is coming along nicely. Feel like i might need to raise the seat a little as i feel a little squished. Will check it out this week.

Penticton To Oliver

Penticton to Oliver with Colleen.
Endomondo Cycling Workout: "was out cycling 83.18 km in 3h:25m:30s using Endomondo."

Awesome ride in the heat (28c) from Smith and Co coffee shop to Oliver where we stopped for half an hour at Oliver Town Pantry for a Powerade and some trail mix and toilet break. The ride to Oliver was very nice but the head wind home slowed us down quite dramatically with some suffering done on the flat open sections of road. Got passed by some ironmen and women like i was standing still which adds to the frustration of my lack of fitness and to the motivation as well.

Todays route took us from Penticton out the Highway 97 to OK Falls then to Oliver then returning to Penticton via Eastside rd.

Endomondo Hiking Workout: "was out hiking 9.00 km in 3h:11m:12s using Endomondo."

Here are some photos from the Hike -- Facebook Album
A wonderful hike up Pincushion Mountain with almost 1000ft of climbing.
This Hike takes you to a view that overlooks Okanagan Lake and also overlooks Peachland.
A fairly tough climb which really tests the fitness and the descent isn't that much easier with it being fairly loose under foot and you really have to watch your footing.

Green Mountain Rd

Great Workout today
Endomondo Cycling Workout: "was out cycling 43.78 km in 2h:00m:30s using Endomondo."
Wednesday Group Ride with Colleen and Michelle.
This is a great route i would love to do again but as it goes through Native Land, I doubt i would feel safe doing it alone.
Todays ride had a nice head wind which made the climb a little more tougher. Having not ridden decently in almost 3 weeks, the legs weren't feeling all that strong and by the turn around at Apex mountain rd, they were shot.

Endomondo Walking Workout

Endomondo Walking Workout: "was out walking 2.18 km in 27m:00s using Endomondo."

Haven't been out exercising for a little bit now, so today after helping volunteer at the Peachland Triathlon where i was the mounting line transition official, i decided to go for a quick walk. The last time i was out for a decent ride was two weeks ago and i remember feeling quite tired and flat after a few solid weeks of training.

Sumac Ridge to Penticton

Endomondo Cycling Workout: "was out cycling 23.35 km in 51m:00s using Endomondo."

Ride home after work with my heavy backpack. Probably a little bit too heavy as it hurt my shoulders and back after a while. Nice short ride without too much hassle and the fitness is definitely improving. The Hill at the end of Green Ave. was a nice test, with the extra weight it added some extra toughness to the 6% grade.

Peachland Beach Run

Peachland Beach Run on Canada Day, July 1st.
This event was either a 5km or 10km run which i chose the 5km, having not run much ever in my life. My goal was to beat 30 minutes which i had set for myself back in April when i first learnt about the race. At the time i was still running 35- 40 minute for the 5km and it felt the right goal. As the weeks progressed, the 30 minutes goal became easier and easier and i felt quite confident that i could beat it as i had ran a 28 minute run and done a lot of cycling since then. I happily broke the 30 minute mark and beat my personal best with a time of 27 minutes and 42 seconds.
Full results will come Monday when they post it Online.

Wednesday Group Ride with the PACA group. Tonight it was Colleen, Anna and Michelle who rode and we rode from Starbucks out to Okanagan Falls via Eastside Rd. It was quite breezy with it feeling like there was a head wind both ways. I led the group out from Penticton at about 30kph for quite a while and when it came to the hills, I kind of suffered a bit.

Painted Rock

Endomondo Cycling Workout: "was out cycling 38.66 km in 1h:32m:23s using Endomondo."

This ride was with the Penticton Cycling Club, my second ride with the club and it was another good one. My fitness had increased dramatically from last week and it will be interesting to see how much i will improve this week. This ride was from Smith and Company on Winnipeg St in Penticton, a small cafe that is the start of most bike rides in the area. It followed Naramata rd out past Naramata to Painted Rock. Painted Rock is just that, a big rock that someone has painted bright yellow and red.

Sumac Ridge to Peachland

Endomondo Cycling Workout: "was out cycling 25.53 km in 1h:19m:34s using Endomondo."

Ride Home after Work the day after a big ride. Legs were dead tired so of course, took me a lot longer then i have done in the past. This ride also included 30 minutes of climbing and considering my maximum heart rate, you can see that my body was unable to reach its maximum. I knew my legs were tired so did not push too hard. I did learn how slowly i could ride up a 10% grade without falling off my bike, about 4km/h. Day off Tomorrow.

Clothes : SS Jersey, Bib Knicks, Winter Jacket, summer socks. Felt pretty warm. Could go without winter jacket next time. Just use arm warmers.

Felt good to be group riding again. From my heart rate information, it was a high end aerobic workout delving into the world of the anaerobic as well. By the end of the ride, my legs were feeling very heavy and slight hills were feeling quite tough.

Short Little Run

Endomondo Running Workout: "was out running 2.20 km in 16m:37s using Endomondo."

Short Little run after work. 2.2 km in not very fast fashion but it was better then nothing. This afternoon the winds are blowing like crazy, so i opted for the short run just to be safe.

Peachland to Penticton

Photobucket

Endomondo Cycling Workout: "was out cycling 41.89 km in 1h:38m:39s using Endomondo."

Solo Ride. This ride started out cool(12c) but as i got riding, i slowly warmed up. Winter Jacket, SS Jersey, bib knicks, summer socks, short fingered gloves.
Overall had a great ride, with the legs feeling pretty good two days after my first run (5km) in two months. This ride is pretty much all highway except for a few kilometers with traffic not being too busy and no close encounters. This route encounters one hill that is 8% grade for a short distance and then continues up hill for a few more kilometers. Also included on this route are some awesome descents (Max Speed 62 kph), rolling hills and a long flat stretch perfect for Tempo work.

5.0km Run

Endomondo Running Workout: "was out running 5.00 km in 34m:27s using Endomondo."
First Run in 2 months since Pneumonia. Felt good. Afternoon, weather was warm. Shirts and Shorts.
Legs are feeling a little tender but that is a given since they haven't done such a workout in a while. The route was my regular out and back route and remembering back to my last run prior to my illness, this run was a lot easier as my lungs have recovered quite well. I will see how my legs feel tomorrow, if they can take another run.

Peachland Return Via Dryden

Endomondo Cycling Workout: "was out cycling 24.10 km in 1h:16m:24s using Endomondo."

Todays ride was down to Peachland in the nice weather that we are having. It wasn't too hot (20c,Sunny,Cloudy Periods), it was cool at first until i got the blood pumping. The route was down to Beach Ave and then back up the hill to home via Dryden Walk Loop. Nothing too serious about this ride, just racking up the miles with a few distractions (a mate who couldn't figure out how to put a bike rack on his car, people trying to find Vancouver, Peachland Music Festival). This route includes at least 15 minutes of Climbing from the lake to Home. I did take 10 minutes rest at about the half way mark when i got down to downtown Peachland as i happened upon the Peachland Heritage Music Festival.

Endomondo Cycling Workout

Endomondo Cycling Workout: "was out cycling 9.11 km in 24m:17s using Endomondo."
Quick and Simple was the motto for the bike ride tonight. The legs feel sharp with moderate power climbing the short sharp hills. The route was from the house out to Coldham National Park turn around back to the house using the Dryden/Trepenair walk loop i also do. Hoping to get out for a decent ride tomorrow with some longer time in the saddle. As i have a few days off, i'm hoping to to do a few good training days.

Endomondo Cycling Workout

Endomondo Cycling Workout: "was out cycling 29.91 km in 1h:29m:28s using Endomondo."
Nice Ride today, took the Avanti for a ride towards Summerland, turning around at the start of the dual highway. The temperature was warm in the low twenties so no complaints about being cold. It did feel quite hot when climbing the hill up Trepenair hill. The legs are feeling good for having not exercised much in the last 5 weeks due to a chest infection and traveling home to Australia.

Endomondo Walking Workout

Endomondo Walking Workout: "was out walking 6.57 km in 2h:00m:00s using Endomondo."

This was a good hike on our last day in Sydney along Bondi Beach. The day was good with some very nice weather, in the twenties.

Endomondo Walking Workout

Endomondo Walking Workout: "was out walking 4.87 km in 42m:46s using Endomondo."

This hike/bike today was tough. Not realising how steep the mountain is, i took the bike down. I would guess that it is upwards of 15% grade in someplaces and pushing a 30lb bike up it just makes it tougher. Overall, i was quite happy with the effort as my lungs held up pretty well considering my fitness regime lately. This hike starts at Trepenair Manor and down the mountainside leading towards the Peachland School or pass the Trepenair Creek Mobile Home Park.

Endomondo Walking Workout

Endomondo Walking Workout: "was out walking 2.41 km in 29m:00s using Endomondo."

Real-time GPS tracking of sports with mobile phones and Garmin devices. Challenge friends and share workouts with them.

I've tested this program on my Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate twice now and it seems a pretty good program especially considering its free. The GPS, isn't all that accurate but i don't know if thats the program or if its the power of the Fascinate that causes the inaccuracy. In general though, its a good program that will add motivation to anyones training program as it tracks your daily, monthly and yearly mileage which you then can share with friends and family.
